The Commercial Benefits of a Series


When you’re starting out, the idea of writing and finishing one book will feel like a mammoth task, so the idea of writing a series may seem completely overwhelming, but it’s something you should consider when you first start to outline your book. 

After all, why sell one book when you can sell a trilogy, a quartet, a seven-part saga, or a long-running series? There’s plenty of evidence to show that authors who produce series of books have greater success when it comes to marketing their books and building an ongoing readership.

Authors such as Shannon Mayer, Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin, Joe Abercrombie and Liz Pichon have all reaped the benefits of a successful series. There are many exceptions to this rule, of course, but for the moment let’s look at why you should investigate writing a series.
