It’s all of the world building as a separate book. I think they do these for TV series? I’ve got one for a previous project. Like a mini encyclopedia or travel guide to an imaginary space. Languages, customs, maps, landscapes, cultures. Also the main characters, their relationships and backstories. It’s good for epic fantasy as define the world and figure out the rules of magic and things that will later influence the plot. I was always stopping to world-build as I wrote, so having a separate design space for that works for me. The RPG but is just using the setting as a background to a roleplaying game, so you can have other people stomp around in your world and pick up further feedback on them as they experience it through the lens of a game.
