Protagonist and Antagonist are very broad terms and can feel too black-and-white as you say. But the idea that your protagonist can be their own worst enemy is a fun one to dig into, and when it’s done well it can be brilliant. It goes back to supernatural stories like Jekyll & Hyde, to mind benders like Fight Club, and even in Mr D’s favourite show Breaking Bad there’s a strong argument for saying that Walter White is his own worst enemy.
