Hey Aaron – lots of good advice here, so I’ll skip on that one other than saying I think this idea sounds like a lot of fun and has great potential.
There’s a (loose) sub-genre of science fiction known as ‘space opera’ – they are rollicking, high-flying, fast-paced, and action-packed stories and tend to read more like action novels, but they combine several genre conventions. A good example is Leviathan Wakes (James Corey), a bizarre sci-fi/noir/disaster/mystery novel with curious plot twists and an even curiouser ending. Worth a read, anyway, and might offer some inspiration on a blurb as well (its blurb is quite long).
