Yes, this definitely helps! I tend to use the ‘comments’ feature in Scrivener, which puts the notes you leave for yourself alongside the text, rather than embedded in it. They’re still linked to a place in the manuscript, so you don’t lose the context. I find it works better when I come to edit, as they’re easier to spot or search for.
Word & Google Docs have something similar.
