I actually found some on Amazon, thought “ooh that looks like a fun challenge” and tried to paint them. I’ve always loved fantasy, and the figures appealed from that perspective. Now I actually play the RPGs they’re related to so (when not isolated) I even get to use them in games. As for learning techniques, some folks pointed me to various YouTube tutorials where I picked up some tips. That and many long painting sessions have got me to a point where I actually consider my minis not to be too bad.
The first few are pretty awful by comparison – but still fun for all that.
